Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. I ran an anti-spying software program on my P. I noticed the problem after I ran it. As per the software's instructions, though, I did create a restore point before having run it.

My working hypothesis is that it was that program itself which wiped out that restore point which it should not have done, since it itself told me to create it in the first place. After running that program, I could not create any more restore points. I did, however, re-start Volume Shadow Copy.

Then, I tried to create a restore point manually. The "test" restore point was there. Since, the System Protection service is missing from the PC, that could be the reason System Restore points are not available after creation. Perform an in-place upgrade to repair Windows files.

Note: Please do take a backup of your user data before performing the repair installation. Maybe that's something that existed in prior versions of Windows. If yours continues to work now that you've started Volume Shadow Copy, you're probably good now too. I didn't have to manually start the latter. It might be an optional.
